It has been politicized by the berber nationalists (les berberistes) since 1948 during the crisis ofthe algerian people's party. But I don't want to get into their political agenda and issues of separatism. What's important to cite is that what's called "tamazight" language is in a very problematic situation simply because according to the constituion , it has not been defined yet. All what we have are the work of reconstruction done by Mouloud Maamri in the 70s. Furthermore, as claimed by the linguistic Abelrezzak Dourari , it's a fabricated language that nobody understands. My fellow chaouis as an example, claim can't use it. Even many Kabyles are complaining that this is going to be a menace to their dialect. We should remember that the main point of teaching "tamazight" is to help preserve the national heritage and promote it, not to bury what have survived. <br />Even though I am not a berber speaker, but since it became an official language , I, and people like me, should be also invited to say our opinion on how to teach it to our children. A thing that many of berberists don't accept. They had the means to enforce it into the schools , so they did't without any national dialogue or debate.
